Ty Conklin achieved a well-deserved shutout against his former team
Well, it was backs against the wall time for the Blues last night. The Red Wings had 42 shots on goal…and a further 45 were blocked or went high and wide. The Red Wings had 6 powerplays – including a 5 on 3 – but the Blues PK unit killed them all. On the other hand, the Blues had 4 powerplays but their dire PP units continued to struggle.
The game was all about goaltending though – with Ty Conklin taking well deserved kudos for his excellent work in front of net. Chris Mason and Ty Conklin are working well together – they both seem happy when the other plays and gets the win. The Blues have a great goalkeeping tandem at the moment – it’s just a shame the offense can’t seem to get going. One goal decided the game – scored after 1.56 of period 1 by Brad Boyes.
The Blues were outshot 13-4 in P1 and 15-5 in P3. They managed to outshoot the Red Wings by 17-14 in P2. A hard fought win – not pretty and not an indicator that the Blues offense is starting to click – but at this time, the result is the important thing. Picking up 2 points over the Red Wings in regulation was just what was needed – no matter how ugly it was. Currently the Blues have played the Red Wings 4 times this season – winning 3 and losing 1 in a shootout. Not bad. Not bad at all. So…your game reports:
- The Blues Official Site has its usual recap and game highlights. Whilst you’re there – check out the great new wallpapers.
- Jeremy Rutherford of the Post Dispatch sums it up with comments from Ty Conklin, Jay McClement, Barrat Jackman and Andy Murray.
- St Louis Game Time Game Day Thread – what can you say? Brilliantly funny as usual.
So, major kudos to Ty Conklin – and you have to wonder why on earth the Red Wings let this guy get away. I’m very glad they did, though.
